Many homeowners see faded pavers, weeds, mold, algae, or washed-out joint sand and assume replacement is needed, when in reality a proper paver restoration process can often completely transform the surface.
One of the biggest factors in successful paver sealing is preparation. For this driveway, our crew first completed a deep paver cleaning and crosswashing process. Crosswashing means pressure washing the pavers from multiple directions to help clean the joints and textured surfaces more thoroughly than a quick surface pass. This process is especially important in Florida where moisture, humidity, and organic buildup collect deep within the surface over time.
After cleaning, we installed fresh joint sand to the proper ICPI recommended depth of approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch below the chamfer edge. Proper sand depth helps stabilize the pavers while reducing movement, weed intrusion, and sand washout during heavy rain.
Another important part of paver sealing in Florida is using the correct sealer. Florida receives substantial annual rainfall, intense UV exposure, and high humidity levels, which is why we use premium water based paver sealer manufactured specifically for Florida environments. Areas with poor drainage, standing water, excessive shade, or nearby ponds and conservation areas are also more prone to mold, algae, and mildew buildup because the surfaces stay damp longer throughout the day.
